Overview:

Founded in 1647, Boston Public Schools (BPS) is the oldest public school district in the country. With approximately 57,000 students from over 114 different countries, nearly 8,000 employees, and an annual budget of $973 million, BPS is the largest district in Massachusetts and one of the most diverse as well.

Currently BPS has 128 schools utilizing three food service delivery models. Forty six (46) schools have full service kitchens with full time cafeteria managers and subordinate staff. Seventy eight (78) schools are satellite kitchen sites receiving meals from an outside vendor, contracted by BPS. In the 2017-2018 school year four schools participated in a pilot program introducing a new model called “My Way Café.” In the 2018-2019 school year this pilot model will be expanded to an additional 26 schools. The My Way Cafe model is supported by a Central Distribution Center.
