Opportunity Description
Boston Public Schools seeks support to help ensure current and prospective students are assigned to schools within the BPS in accordance with the rules governing the Home-Based Assignment Plan. The Assignment Specialist Support person is primarily responsible for verifying and approving registration and transfer cases. The successful candidate must be detail oriented, able to work independently, work well with deadlines, and comfortable working with the ASPEN Student Information System (SIS).
This opportunity will run from January 1 to February 28 and July 1 to mid-October. The stipend position will be compensated at the BTU long-term sub rate for a maximum of 400 hours. The candidate must be available to work a hybrid schedule with agreed-upon in-office hours and remotely during evenings and weekends.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Assignment and Special Admissions
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research, review, and approve applications for assignment and transfer processed by all Welcome Center locations
- Verify and approve student cases for enrollment based on the rules of the Home-Based Assignment Plan and bargaining unit agreements
- Flag problem cases for additional review
- Monitor and manage the waitlist assignment process
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS -PREFERRED:
- Experience working with Aspen (Student Information System)
- Ability to handle a large volume caseload within strict deadlines
- Comfort with data entry at a high rate of accuracy
- Familiarity with the Home-Based Assignment Plan
- Familiarity with programs and policies related to ELL and SPED students
- Familiarity with BPS waitlist policies
