POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Student Intern resides in the Department of Adult Education. The mission of BPS Adult Ed is to provide a variety of flexible programs to ensure that Boston residents have access to quality instruction, job training, and college and career advice. We honor the diversity of our students by promoting equity and inclusion. BPS Adult Ed annually serves about 800 adult students who want to learn English, participate in vocational training, improve their academic level, and/or graduate from high school. Day and evening, as well as in-person, online, and virtual programs, are offered.
The Department of Adult Education seeks an extraordinary Student Intern to work in our school. The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, have excellent judgment, and have the ability to manage a fast-paced and multi-faceted workload with attention to detail. This individual should be a self-starter who can prioritize and execute multiple tasks and projects. The Student Intern must maintain confidentiality and exhibit discretion and professionalism in all activities.
Job responsibilities
- Assist with information, registration, and assessment sessions
- Utilize school databases to track and maintain student enrollment and waitlist data
- Provide front desk coverage for the reception area, including answering phone calls and forwarding messages to appropriate teachers and staff
- Maintain alphabetical, numerical, and subject matter files
- Compile student information for statistical analysis
- Utilize student databases to assist students with requests related to class location, teacher information and class schedules.
- Create bulletin boards highlighting students, job opportunities, and community support services.
- Performs related duties of a similar nature as requested by Directors, which are commensurate with job classification
Qualifications: Required
- High School graduate or currently enrolled high school student
- Basic word processing and spreadsheet skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Team player mindset
- Ability to create meaningful relationships with a diverse student population.
- Ability to manage and prioritize tasks across multiple projects.
- Attention to detail to ensure that accurate records are maintained and shared.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; effectively collaborating with students, teachers, and administrators.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
- Current authorization to work in the United States.
Qualifications: Preferred
- Currently enrolled in a two or four-year college program
- Bilingual
Terms: $20.00 per hour, up tp 18 hours per week
