POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Executive  Director of Sports Administration (EAD) for Boston Public Schools (BPS) will serve as the chief strategist and visionary leader for the BPS Athletic Department. Building upon the foundational work of the Director of Athletics, the EAD will oversee and elevate the athletic experience for all students within the district. This role is instrumental in shaping a district-wide culture that prioritizes student-athlete development, equity in sports, academic growth, development, high impact experiences with sports and community engagement. The EAD will be responsible for driving strategic initiatives, strengthening partnerships, and spearheading large-scale projects to enhance the quality and reach of BPS athletic programs. The EAD will manage and lead BPS Sports Administration towards developing and maintaining a high functioning and operational sports administration. 



RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Strategic Leadership and Vision Development:
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the BPS Athletic Department, aligning with the broader goals of the Student Support Division.
    • Lead efforts to enhance the district’s athletic offerings, ensuring alignment with best practices and national standards for youth sports under the governance of the MIAA
    • Establish and promote a clear vision for athletic excellence, inclusivity, and equity, ensuring all student-athletes have access to high-quality sports experiences.
  2. Oversight and Supervision:
    • Provide direct supervision and support to the Director of Athletics, Regional Athletic Coordinators, and other senior staff within the athletic department.
    • Ensure effective management and coordination of all athletic programs across the district’s schools, fostering a cohesive and unified athletic strategy.
    • Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of athletic department staff, coaches, and support personnel.
  3. Policy Development and Compliance:
    • Develop and enforce district-wide athletic policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with local, state, and national regulations and standards.
    • Work closely with school administrators and community stakeholders to ensure policies promote safety, fairness, and accessibility in all athletic programs.
    • Monitor and address compliance issues related to Title IX, student eligibility, and athletic program equity.
  4. Infrastructure Development and Facility Management:
    • Lead the renovation and rejuvenation project of White Stadium in collaboration with the City of Boston, overseeing all aspects from planning to execution.
    • Strategically plan for the development and maintenance of athletic facilities district-wide, ensuring they meet the needs of all student-athletes and comply with safety standards.
    • Develop a long-term facilities master plan that addresses current needs and anticipates future growth and demand.
  5. Financial Oversight and Resource Management:
    • Oversee the athletic department’s budget, ensuring financial resources are allocated effectively to support district-wide goals and objectives.
    • Lead efforts to secure additional funding and resources through grants, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives.
    • Ensure transparency and accountability in the financial operations of the athletic department.
  6. Partnership and Community Engagement:
    • Cultivate partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations to enhance the district’s athletic programs and opportunities for student-athletes.
    • Serve as a liaison to the Boston community, promoting the value of athletics in education and fostering community support for district sports programs.
    • Collaborate with parents, alumni, and other stakeholders to build a strong support network for BPS athletics.
  7. Program Evaluation and Improvement:
    • Develop and implement a robust evaluation framework to assess the effectiveness of athletic programs, identify areas for improvement, and track progress against strategic goals.
    • Use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts across all levels of the athletic department.
    • Lead initiatives to enhance student-athlete health, wellness, and academic success, integrating athletic participation with overall student development.
  8. Leadership in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):
    • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within all aspects of the athletic department, ensuring all student-athletes have access to equitable opportunities.
    • Implement programs and initiatives that promote cultural competency and address barriers to participation for underrepresented groups.
    • Advocate for policies and practices that foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of the BPS athletic community.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in athletic administration, including a proven track record of leadership in a large and diverse educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of athletic policies, regulations, and compliance, with a particular emphasis on equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and personnel.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and community engagement skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Boston Public Schools and a passion for student-athlete development.

The Executive Athletic Director will report directly to the Chief of Student Support and will work closely with school leaders, coaches, community partners, and city officials to ensure a vibrant and successful athletic program that enhances the overall educational experience for Boston Public Schools students.
