Description

This vacancy is the result of temporary funding through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). The duration of the funding means the position is temporary and will last for one year only. Hired candidates may be excessed or non-renewed from the position for the following school year.

 

Dever Elementary School, a fully inclusive PK-6 school located in Boston’s Columbia Point neighborhood, is looking for a full-time Spanish teacher to teach heritage language learners and support other activities designed to celebrate Spanish language and Latino culture in our school community. 

 

Reports to:  Principal

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Dever team to launch the Spanish heritage language program. 
  • Plan and teach classes that help students strengthen/develop Spanish literacy skills and explore Spanish-speaking cultures. Design culturally and linguistically relevant instructional experiences for heritage speakers.
  • Promote the Spanish heritage language learning opportunity to students and families. Work with Dever family partnership staff and other staff to build interest in Spanish language learning opportunities and showcase learning.
  • Leverage families and community members as resources to support learning activities.
  • Provide input and feedback on instructional resources and program design.
  • Foster and maintain effective communication with parents and/or guardians.
  • Participate in Dever professional development and work collaboratively as part of the Dever staff team to ensure a cohesive school-wide approach to teaching, learning, whole child development, and family partnership.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

Qualifications - Required

  1. Bachelor's degree at a minimum
  2. Massachusetts teaching license in World Languages/Spanish or other related license which can support Spanish language instruction and culture awareness; for example, fluent Spanish speaking teacher with ESL, ELA, social studies, or humanities license.
  3. Experience teaching heritage learners of Spanish
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills in Spanish and English
  5. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English
  6. SEI endorsement and/or bilingual endorsement
  7. Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Terms 

  • Full-time position (1.0 FTE)
  • BTU, Group I
  • Dever hours for students are 7:30 am-2:30 pm. Staff hours are 7:10am - 3:10pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 7:10 am-3:55 pm on Wednesdays (students are released early; staff have professional development and planning time)
