General Description:
This position is for a Program Director to lead the Middle and Secondary school programs at the Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Our school educates students in two languages: English and American Sign Language. We are seeking a dynamic individual to serve as an education leader. This person must be highly motivated, results oriented, an effective communicator, and an instructional leader committed to high standards of performance and achievement by both students and educators.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of Middle and Secondary school educators and instructional staff
- Supervise the development, coordination, and implementation of curriculum and instruction in the Middle and Secondary programs
- Coordinate schedules, class coverage, and day-to-day operations
- Collaborate in the coordination of state and district assessments administration, including MCAS-Alt Portfolios
- Maintain accurate assessment records and ensure compliance
- Collaborate with teachers in the analysis of student learning data, and implementation of data-driven effective teaching practice
- Collaborate with teacher leaders and administrators to plan and co-facilitate instructional team meetings and school-based professional development sessions
- Assist in planning, research, and program development activities for the school
- Provide feedback and support teachers in their work implementing appropriate accommodations, lesson modifications, and best practices in Deaf education
- Support a dual language school culture where bilingualism and multiculturalism are valued and nurtured
- Participate in the Instructional Leadership Team, Student Support Team, and School Site Council
- Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings
- Work closely with families to increase engagement
- Ensure a safe learning environment for all students; provide appropriate disciplinary interventions in accordance with school and district guidelines
- Perform other related duties as requested by the Headmaster
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree and license in Deaf Education or related field
- Massachusetts School Principal/Assistant Principal license
- Minimum of five years experience working in Deaf Education
- Proficient in American Sign Language and Deaf culture
- Experience with interdisciplinary approach to curriculum and instruction
- Experience with educator development, feedback, and evaluation
- Experience with district assessments, MCAS and MCAS-Alt
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, communication and interpersonal skills, necessary to effectively work with students, parents, and teachers
- Commitment to promoting a welcoming and diverse cultural and linguistic school environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- ESL license
- Experience developing inclusion and SEI program models within a school for the Deaf
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with humor and enthusiasm
