This vacancy is the result of temporary funding through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER). The duration of the funding means the position is temporary and may last for one, two, or three years. Hired candidates may be excessed or non-renewed from the position for the following school year. 

 

Reports to: Executive Director for the Arts

Managerial Contract

 

General Description: 

Responsible for receiving, inventorying, and delivering all music and arts equipment; organizing an online inventory portal for musical instruments, arts equipment, scripts, and scores; and assisting with the lighting and sound production of Citywide BPS Arts performances (MLK Jr. Celebration, Citywide Arts Festival, etc.).

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate professionally and understandably via telephone, in person, electronic, and written form
  • Receive all music and arts equipment, unpackage, add items to inventory, label serial numbers on items, and deliver to schools
  • Organize and deliver musical instrument repairs to local vendors
  • Oversee the stocking, cleaning and organization of the music repair shop 
  • Move centrally stored choral risers and audio/lighting equipment to various schools for performance events throughout the BPS
  • Run audio and lighting for various BPS events

Physical Requirements: 

  • Sit or stand for extended durations of time.
  • Lift up to 70lbs 30% of time.
  • Climb stairs daily
  • Good vision for technical work
  • Operate various 'shop' tools independently



Qualifications - Required: 

  1. Ability to operate an online inventory system and all Google Suite Applications (Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Slides) 
  2. Valid Massachusetts drivers license
  3. Ability to work effectively with Visual and Performing Arts Department educators
  4. High school diploma or GED required
  5. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

 

Qualifications - Preferred:

  1. Experience in operating lighting and sound systems for live events
  2. Knowledge of woodwind and brass instruments 

 

Terms: Managerial, B22. City of Boston Residency is Required.
