Description

Title: SPED Cab Monitor

 

Reports to: Assistant Manager for Special Education Monitors

Job Overview: SPED Cab Monitors are assigned to monitor and assist students with special needs while they are being transported to and from school. 


Responsibilities:

 

  • Assisting parents and school-based staff with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of students on the bus 

 

  • Communicating with paras, teachers, school leaders, and parents concerning relevant student background, medical considerations, and behavior as appropriate

 

  • Helping students on and off the bus; assisting with the unloading and  loading process by lifting children as required; assuring that a responsible adult is able to receive students as they depart from the bus.  

 

  • Partnering with the bus driver to ensure that the correct students board the bus and are dropped off at the correct stops

 

  • Ensuring students’ seat belts, Child Restraint Systems, and wheelchair clamps are secured while riding the bus

 

  • Attending general and need-specific training courses as directed

 

  • Maintaining regular attendance and punctuality

 

Knowledge:

 

  • Basic knowledge of school bus safety

 

Ability to:

 

  • Lift a wheelchair on and off the bus as needed

 

Qualifications - Required:

 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older 
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Ability to enter/exit bus via steps repeatedly

 

Qualifications - Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in a school setting and or with school aged children is preferred
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
