Job Title: Paraprofessional

 

Reports to: Principal/Headmaster

 

Boston Green Academy, an innovative "in-district"" charter school within the Boston Public Schools, is seeking to hire diverse, dedicated, skilled, and inspiring educators. BGA is committed to preparing all students to succeed in college and 21st century careers and to be leaders in the sustainability of our community and world. Located in Brighton, BGA serves almost 500 students in grades 6-12.

Boston Green Academy is seeking new staff members who will:
-Focus intensely on increasing student achievement for all students, especially those who are struggle or are off-track
-Embrace BGA's mission as a green and sustainable school in all classes and school-wide activities
-Create inspiring, challenging, and effective teaching and learning experiences for all our students while being part of a strong professional learning community
-Be committed to serving all students, including English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities, in a maximum inclusion setting.

 

The Special Education Paraprofessional will: 

  • Support Students with Disabilities in an inclusive setting and substantially separate setting; assist teachers in their classes with these students; support additional students in the classroom with academic needs
  • Serve in partnership with the Classroom Teacher to work collaboratively on curriculum planning, classroom management, assessments, and other classroom needs
  • Participate in our all-school summer professional development of one additional week prior to the start of the school year
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School (or designee).

 

 

Qualifications - Required: 

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Forty-eight (48) Credit Hours of College Coursework or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on one of the two following Formalized Standardized Assessments: ParaPro Assessment (http://www.ets.org/parapro/ ) or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants (http://www.act.org/workkeys/profcert/index.html ).
  3. Minimum of two years experience working with young children.
  4. Strong commitment to Boston Green Academy’s mission, values, and educational model
  5. Desire to be a part of a innovative school and to meet the opportunities and challenges this poses
  6. Experience working in urban and diverse school environments; experience working with Students with Disabilities preferred
  7. Interest in and ability to become a licensed teacher preferred
  8. Ability to collaborate and work well under pressure
  9. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

 

Qualifications- Preferred:

  1. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.
  2. Certification as a teacher or license as a social worker.
  3. BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages:Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.

 

Terms: BTU, Paraprofessional hourly rate
