Description

Rafael Hernández HASP Program Coordinator 

The Program Coordinator will work in collaboration with other members of the Hernández community to assure high-quality programming for approximately 150 students in the Rafael Hernández After School Program with a focus on logistics and program development.  Operating from 3:10 to 6:30 pm five days a week, the program offers students opportunities for academic support, extracurricular activities, and social/emotional support in a safe and engaging setting.  The Coordinator will report to the Director.  This position entails leading the after school and supervising Group Leaders in the delivery of the curriculum, leading the volunteer recruitment and management efforts in partnership with the AmeriCorps members, working with the Board, Director and AmeriCorps members on our fundraising goals as well as acting as a sub Group Leader and program support during program hours.  This position will supervise up to 20 part-time staff and service members.  

 

Responsibilities:

Program

  • Support the identification of vision and outcome for the afterschool program with the Director and other administrative team members; adjust program design to meet desired outcomes.  Assess and evaluate program annually and revise program accordingly
  • Act as an administrator as needed to the overall day to day programming, including following emergency protocols and supporting behavior management interventions as they arise
  • Monitor individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, library, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school rules and procedures regarding student behavior and participation and/or providing a safe, respectful and positive multicultural learning environment
  • Support staff in the Restorative Justice and Conferencing work during program hours while managing discipline and accident report maintenance, family communication, and data entry
  • Monitor compliance with safety and other regulations
  • Support the HASP staff with all Events
  • Perform record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. copying, correcting papers, form preparation, attendance, phone calls, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary records/materials and helping students succeed
  • Maintain classroom equipment, work area, students’ files/records (e.g. adapting instructional materials, cleaning work area, taking attendance, checking homework, grading papers, emergency cards, audiovisual equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information

Partnership Coordination

  • Focuses on building internal curriculum and maintaining partnerships with external partners
  • Act as the main point of contact with all external program partnerships
  • Strengthen our volunteer recruitment from community members, university partnerships, AmeriCorps, and Commonwealth Corps partners
  • Lead partnership observations schedule as well as participate in APT observations citywide
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Management of staff/volunteers

  • Provide supervision and discipline to Group Leaders in their delivery of the program as well as ensuring daily staffing in the program
  • Assist Director in providing leaders, supervision, and support for FOH’s team of staff community members, and volunteers including regular classroom observations and biannual check-in meetings
  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring of After School staff, and specialists
  • Provide reinforcement/aid to Group Leaders in their delivery of curriculum
  • Work as a HASP Group Leader substitute as needed

 

School Communication

  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations/Director and staff to maintain continuity between school and HASP program 
  • Stay aware of school functioning through reading staff and community newsletters and/or attending staff meetings
  • Liaison with school staff, including teachers and support staff to ensure HASP compliments school day efforts
  • Provide updates or reports to school staff about which students participate in various programs in the After School to ensure a full picture of the school and FOH support is clear 

 

Marketing and Fundraising

  • Support the work of the Fundraising Plan specifically through grant writing, sponsorships, and individual donor outreach as needed
  • Lead the marketing strategy for HASP to ensure stakeholders have regular insight into the strong programming being offered
  • Collaborate with Americorps to develop social media posts on a weekly basis and newsletter stories on a monthly basis 

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in both direct care and leadership in after-school and/or summer programs for youth between ages of 4 and 14
  • Demonstrated competency working with families of different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to self-manage and supervise others
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Fundraising experience
  • Previous management experience 
  • Bachelor degree preferred
  • Fluent in both Spanish and English required

 

Hours and Compensation:

  • $42,000-45,000 August-July; 40 hours a week, M-F 10:45am-6:45pm
