Manager of Student Support 

 

Job Overview

 

The Manager of Student Support will work with and serve on school instructional and support teams, (i.e., Administrative, Student Support, Access, Attendance, ILT Teams) create intervention plans and work with partnerships to align with student academic and social emotional needs, for grades K - 8.

 

Student Support Services

 

  • Develop positive relationships and promote high academic and behavioral expectations with all students.
  • Serve as a member of the student support team, addressing tier 3 student concerns and generating targeted strategies for intervention and outside resource referrals.
  • Serve as a member of the student attendance team, addressing chronic student attendance concerns.
  • Manage student behavioral needs, including student re-directions, parent/student/teacher conferencing, creating student behavior intervention plans.
  • Support teachers with classroom/student behavior management strategies to promote student success and positive classroom culture.
  • Use knowledge of students’ IEP needs to assist teachers in supporting students who require special education services.
  • Participate in IEP meetings with teachers, parents, psychologists, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, and other special education professionals.
  • Support student transitions/dismissal and bus duty, liaising with Boston Public Schools Transportation when transportation concerns arise.

 

School Culture Supports

 

  • Facilitate and model culturally and linguistically sustaining practices which support positive school culture amongst students and staff, such as restorative justice circles, conversations and conferences.
  • Develop and support a culture of reflective and coherent practices amongst teachers and staff.
  • Plan and support facilitation of professional development, using restorative justice practices.
  • Serve as the administrative team representative for School Climate & Culture.
  • Engage in ad hoc supports and projects, as needed (examples: Male Mentoring Group Partnership Planning and Professional Development, K-3 Field Day Planning).

 

Instructional Supports

 

  • Serve on the administrative, as well as the instructional leadership teams. 
  • Support the professional development of staff.
  • Manage School Access Team, comprised of inclusion teacher specialists, who use assessment data to provide curriculum modifications and accommodations for English Language Learners and students with special needs, to provide access for all learners.
  • Work with community partnerships, (City Year & Thompson Island) which provide additional instructional supports to meet the needs of students and teachers.

 

Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with inner city youth in urban setting
  • 3+ years of full-time work experience; 1-3 years experience preferably in an education or non-profit related organization
  • Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the Haynes’s mission, core values and educational model

  • Flexible and able to multitask
  • Can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
  • Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior staff, as needed
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of social media platforms/tools and emerging new media
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Drive Suite
  • Comfort and familiarity with student information databases (Aspen, SIS, etc)

 

Qualifications - Preferred

  • A postgraduate degree in a relevant field of study is preferred
  • 1-3 years experience preferably in an education or non-profit related organization

 

Terms: Managerial Tier C

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position is subject to the City of Boston residency requirement. 

 

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
