FEBRUARY ACCELERATION ACADEMY SITE COORDINATOR

Overview: Oversee Acceleration Academy planning and programming. Supervise academic and enrichment teachers & paraprofessionals, and oversee operational management for programming during 4-day vacation program, February 18-21, 2020. Work closely with BPS Central and Teachers to execute Acceleration Academy goals set forth by BPS academic and professional learning leaders and school principal. Principles of managerial staff may elect to be the academy site coordinator, waiving the associated stipend; equivalent funding will be reinvested into the school materials budget for the academy.*

Duties:

Program Planning 

  • Participate in mandatory orientation event: Thursday, November 18, 2019 from 4:30-6:00pm.
  • Work with BPS Central & principal to coordinate materials and incentives purchasing.
  • Oversee submission of pre-program deliverables.

Student & Family

  • Oversee selected student registration and engagement efforts, Submit student list by Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
  • Coordinate family outreach and communication.
  • Recruit walkers to fill seats of non-attending students.

Staffing, Supervision & Curriculum

  • Work with BPS Central & principal to coordinate teacher recruitment and hiring.
  • Work with BPS Central & principal to develop curriculum & coordinate enrichment programming.
  • Attend and co-facilitate Professional Development on January 18, 2020 from 8am-2pm for academy staff (Snow Day: January 25, 2020).
  • Facilitate independent team working sessions (as needed) and complete academy deliverables by deadlines determined by BPS Central.
  • Supervise academic & enrichment teachers.
  • Collaborate with City Year staff to plan and implement program supports.

Operations and Program Management

Serve as the point person for the following tasks: 

  • Oversee operational management of program site.
  • Execute and enforce site policies and student discipline code.
  • Parent/Family communications/questions.
  • Central office communications.
  • Coordinate with principal regarding building management.
  • Coordinate with food services/cafeteria staff for meal delivery.
  • Coordinate with custodial staff.
  • Spearhead emergency protocol response (fire alarms, etc.).

Oversee the following tasks:

  • Record & monitor student attendance daily; Implement retention strategies.
  • Organize day-to-day bussing logistics.
  • Place phone calls home to parents for students who don’t arrive and/or are not picked up on time.
  • Track time of BPS teachers, complete time reporting forms for payroll.

Wrap up Duties

  • Oversee completion of student progress reports (using provided template) for each student; provide copy to school principal and student’s family.
  • Collect artifacts & compile materials inventory.
  • Participate in mandatory feedback/debrief session.

Additional Hub School Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with identified “sending schools” to ensure standards, goals and program design are communicated effectively to school personnel to drive student selection at those schools.

Schedule: 

Pre-Academy:  Site Coordinator Orientation: 11/18/19 from 4:30-6pm, Student registration/engagement-submit student list by 11/27/19, Curriculum & program planning and Staff Hiring 

During Academy: Acceleration Academy site coordinator required to be on site 30 minutes prior to program start time and 30 minutes post program end time. 6-hour student day - schedule varies by site (7:30am-1:30pm or 9:00am-3:00pm, to be confirmed by Feb 1. Acceleration Academies operate from February 18-21, 2020.

Post-Academy: “Wrap-up” duties (such as student progress reports, artifact collection, materials inventory, feedback) occur at the end of Academy programming.

Stipend Rate: $2500 - includes pre-academy planning & student registration/engagement, curriculum planning & post-academy wrap up (20 hrs) and vacation week programming (28 hrs).

Stipend Rate For Hub Site Coordinators *ONLY* (sites who are hosting students from other schools): $3,500 - includes pre-academy planning & student registration/engagement, coordination with sending schools, curriculum planning & post-academy wrap up (20 hrs) and vacation week programming (28 hrs).

Role, HR & Payment: Position executes duties in collaboration with school principal and BPS Central.

Acceleration Academy Site Coordinator Stipend Dissemination Guidelines


PLEASE NOTE:  Principals who elect to be the site coordinator will not receive a stipend. The hours will be considered part of the principal’s contractual obligation. The equivalent funding amount ($2500) will be reinvested into the school materials budget for the academy.

  • Coordinate with identified “sending schools” to ensure standards, goals and program design are communicated effectively to school personnel to drive student selection at those schools.

Qualifications:

  • Principal, administrator, or certified academic teacher from Acceleration Academy school site
  • At least 2 years of professional teaching experience
  • Skilled in leadership and project management
  • Experience with developing & implementing curriculum, lesson plans
  • Able and willing to supervise other BPS academic teachers and paraprofessionals in vacation setting (providing constructive feedback, developing collaborative effort)
  • Preferred: Close relationships with selected student demographic
