Job Description

The role of this position is to directly facilitate and maintain the existing AED program in the district.  Additionally, the AED Project Leader is responsible for the AED, CPR and First Aid training of all BPS staff to maintain required certification district-wide.  BPS staff includes, but is not limited to, nurses, BPS School Police, school-based staff, coaches and teachers traveling abroad with students.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1.  Maintain AED Equipment:
  • Lithium Battery monitoring and replacement (every 4 years)
  • Alarmed storage cabinet (9 volt battery) 
  • Adult and Pediatric Pad replacement (every two years) 
  • School or on site maintenance checklist and inspection list 
  • Replace AEDs every seven years or as needed
  1.   CPR/AED training requirements and recommendations for PAD program maintenance:
  • The Boston Public Health Commission and Boston Emergency Medical Services have recommended a minimum of ten current CPR/AED trained personnel at each school
  • Document and maintain reports on a weekly basis and as requested
  • Ensure that all coaches are certified  in CPR/AED/First Aid as required by MIAA
  • To meet the ten CPR trained personnel at each building maintain and expand the current “train the trainer” program to all school buildings
  • Verify and maintain a list of certified CPR/AED personnel at all school buildings
  • Supplement the CPR/AED trainings with first aid training
  • Inspect and audit each school’s AED program to ensure compliance with City of Boston EMS and BPS Public Access Defibrillation Policy (which includes but not limited to: list of CPR/First Aid Trained personnel, on-site training program, maintenance check of AEDs and associated record-keeping, etc.)
  • Provide CPR/AED and First Aid training for BPS staff annually including nurses and teachers traveling abroad with students, Facilities and Boston School Police.
  • Provide training as an element of staff development for school based staff
  • Provide Early Learning Centers (ELCs) and Early Education Centers (EECs) with proper training in CPR/AED and First Aid certification to meet their accreditation requirements for programs that extend beyond school hours.  During these hours there are no nurses at these programs 

 

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:

  • Certified CPR Instructor/Trainer from an accredited agency
  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4-5 years of experience in related field
  • Tourniquet Training
  • Strong background in training large and small groups in state and city organizations 30+ 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Access to a motor vehicle
  • Possess a valid  Driver’s License
  • Flexibility to respond throughout the district as required
  • Available to conduct meetings,  trainings , and represent the department after normal work hours as needed            
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment 

 

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:

  • 10+ years experience in leading and facilitating CPR/AED/First Aid Trainings
  • Experience working/ volunteering in emergency services (i.e. EMT, Firefighter)
  • Emergency Management/Fire Safety Background

 

TERMS: Non-union Managerial. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.
