Manager of Special Projects

Position Summary: The Manager of Special Projects leads the design, implementation, and monitoring of school-wide support initiatives, including recruitment, cultivation (certification) and retention of highly qualified staff. Specifically, the Manager of Special Projects acts as a liaison and works closely with programs and strategies that establish partnerships and collaborations with school staff, students, families, and community agencies, while maintaining a high level of professionalism, responsibility, consistency, and respect at all times. The Manager of Special Projects helps coordinate the execution of the school’s turnaround plan.

Reports to: Executive Principal

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to and in not in order of importance:

 

1. Act as a liaison to staff, students, families and community partners on school-related matters

  • a) Support the preparation of presentations and materials
  • b) Review incoming and outgoing documentation for accuracy and compliance
  • c) Coordinate open house/information sessions and present information to family and community partners as appropriate
  • d) Work closely with school and office personnel to ensure requests are appropriately and professionally handled
  • e) Initiate community outreach using appropriate cultural and linguistic strategies

2. Assist the Executive Principal and Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) in implementing school policies and procedures

 

3. Establish formal and informal partnerships with community and corporate agencies and monitor the effectiveness of partnerships

  • a) Identify resources, collaborators, and speakers to facilitate dialogues and presentations for staff and student bodies as appropriate
  • b) Initiate and develop partnerships that could provide additional financial and programmatic resources for the school

4. Responsible for the overall welcoming appearance and maintenance of school facility, including front entrance and office areas

 

5. Support the coordination of mailing and distribution of information to students, families, and community partners

  • a) Prepare, type, and disseminate correspondence, reports, memorandums, and other communications as appropriate
  • b) Maintain communications and confidential documents in a highly organized filing system

6. Support and enhance the marketing plan for the school newsletter, brochures, school website, and other collateral

 

7. Oversee and manage special events, activities, and celebrations with an emphasis on culturally diverse activities that affirm the international heritage of all students and their families

 

8. Develop and present strategies to ensure parent and family involvement in the school

  • a) Assist in the coordination of parent/community advocacy and support for the school, including involvement in the School Site Council/Parent Site Council

9. Collect data and develop databases

  • a) Perform research for reports, assist with data analysis, and generate reports as needed

10. Work with administration and teachers to ensure that all class rosters, schedules, and media release files are regularly maintained

 

11. Work with the principal, ILT and receiver with the implementation and monitoring of the turnaround plan

 

12. Support principal with site visits to the school

 

13. Collaborate with Boston Public Schools and DESE on employee related items

  • Screen applications and materials of potential employees
  • Set-up and manage interviews and other recruiting endeavors
  • Collaborate with partners to on-board and support new employees
  • Attend recruiting events
  • On-board and assist employees at the school level

14. Coordinate and assist with school-wide high volume transitions

 

15. Coordinate and support school wide endeavors to improve and support student, staff and family culture

 

16. Other duties as assigned by the principal

 

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree plus at least 4 years of relevant experience
  2. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with extreme attention to detail, including the ability to work with diverse groups of people
  3. Strong ability to exercise judgement and manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively with minimal supervision 4. Ability to understand and adapt to school environment, population, practices, and procedures
  4. Excellent customer service techniques with a strong ability to resolve conflicts
  5. Extensive experience using Microsoft Office Suite and other operating systems
  6. Excellent verbal and written communications skills 8. Must live in the City of Boston or be willing to move to the City of Boston if hired

 

TERMS: Managerial Tier C

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school.

 

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
