Description

TeachPoint Trainer (BTU) Stipend Opportunity: Spring- Summer 2019

Overview: During SY2018-19, the Office of Human Capital (OHC) is piloting a new technical platform for evaluation across the district. Seven schools are piloting this platform this year: Brighton, Edison, Edwards, Eliot, Kilmer, Mozart, and O’Bryant. In order to ensure effective implementation of this platform district-wide for SY2019-20, OHC is looking for a total of six (6) BTU educators from these schools piloting TeachPoint this year to provide training to other educators who will be users of the new evaluation platform, in advance of district-wide school-based rollout of TeachPoint in September 2019. This is a perfect professional learning opportunity for educators who may be looking to grow skills in adult learning facilitation and use of technology to enhance professional growth and development in a cognitively demanding profession.

Project Details:

During Spring and Summer, 2019, OHC will provide a hybrid training approach to support educators whose roles require evaluation under the 5-step process in the MA Educator Evaluation Regulations in learning how to use TeachPoint, the online platform that will replace EDFS. NOTE: The five-step process and the Teacher and Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP) rubrics are not changing; only the technology platform is changing from EDFS to TeachPoint. The general training plan will occur in two phases: First, all educators will be asked to view a brief, BPS-customized video tutorial to orient them to TeachPoint; Second, educators will be asked to complete a 2-hour, in-person training session that will include a recap and orientation to the basic features of the new platform, as well as guided, hands-on practice using TeachPoint to create such plan components as Self-Assessment, Goals & Action Steps, and Artifacts. We are looking for six educators who consider themselves well-acquainted with the TeachPoint platform, who can lead basic user training, and who can provide a supportive learning environment to educators in learning how to navigate and use it effectively. Educator group training sessions will occur at schools and/or the Bolling Municipal Building, before and/or after school hours when school is in session, and during April and Summer Vacations when possible, ideally for whole-school groups or multi-school groups whenever possible.

Ideal candidates:

  • (Required) Are current evaluees in BPS TeachPoint piloting schools (Brighton, Edison, Edwards, Eliot, Kilmer, Mozart, and O’Bryant)
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of TeachPoint functionality and key terminology as an evaluee
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the Educator evaluation process (“5-step process”)
  • Can lead adult learners in a technology-focused training session that will incorporate the BPS principles of effective professional learning design
  • Will have the support of their school leader in taking on this opportunity/responsibility
  • Have some availability to deliver user training during April vacation week and/or July-August (strongly preferred)

There will be an initial training session for trainers, plus possible follow-up meetings, as well as the training sessions themselves. Final training schedule TBD in collaboration with Trainers, OHC, and TeachPoint staff. Meetings and training sessions will be counted toward stipended hours worked.
