Boston Public Schools seeks an Executive District Director of STEM Programming.

 

 

Reports to: Deputy Chief Academic Officer

 

General Description:

The Boston Public Schools is looking for a innovative and independent leaders who will lead the district’s development of STEM education in all our 124 schools. Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Academic Officer, the Director of STEM Programming will coordinate the development, delivery, implementation and monitoring of STEM curriculum, initiatives, events and projects across the district. The Executive Director will collaborate with external and internal stakeholders to organize and promote interdisciplinary STEM activities integrating the Next generation Sciences Standards, high-tech skill attainment by teachers, and help insure that students have the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math skills necessary to be college, career, and life ready.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in the strategic planning and implementation of a district-wide STEM strategic plan including working with policy, research, and field experts;
  • Supervise, support, coach, and evaluate staff under their responsibility, and model professional competencies in all interactions as a representative of BPS;
  • Model leadership utilizing effective communication skills that reflects a deep commitment to the educational success and opportunity for all students, problem solving skills and protocols, and leading with inspiring transformation;
  • Develops, evaluates and recommends new or expanded programs and curricula in STEM education grades Prek- 12;
  • Assists in the development of STEM curriculum aligned with career pathways that ensure integration of academic and career technical education with 21st century skills, including digital literacy, productivity, IT infrastructure, and computer science;
  • Monitor district level data to determine trends and in turn develop and implement the most effective strategies for meeting and exceeding state and national student achievement goals;
  • Organizes, develops, coordinates and provides trainings for administrations and professional staff related to STEM best practices, Next Generation Science Standards implementation, and Common Core Integration strategies and their integration into the classroom;
  • Coordinates, organizes, and promotes any special STEM events/activities and legislative issues;
  • Works with external stakeholders, including business partners and higher education, on STEM initiatives at the school and district level;
  • Participate, coordinate, or conduct a variety of meetings, committees, training, workshops, and conferences in order to present materials and information concerning department programs, services, operations, and activities;
  • Represent BPS and local, regional and state meetings, conferences, in-services, boards, councils and events.

 

Qualifications - Required:

  • Demonstrate experience designing and implementing STEM programming at a district level;
  • Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Science, or related field;
  • Possess a minimum of three years of  leadership in a school district, school, or organization with experience establishing systems in schools and/or management experience in education strategy development and implementation;
  • Demonstrate capability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, such as school district staff, families, youth, community members and other essential internal and external partners;
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of STEM research, evaluation, strategies, theories, techniques, and methods of instruction;
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and implement adult learning activities;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience working with diverse student populations;
  • Successful experience with planning and conducting meetings; and facilitation and training methodologies;
  • Strong organizational skills, with outstanding attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment;
  • Comfort with handling multiple projects simultaneously as well as working with rapidly shifting priorities and targets;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create trusting relationships;
  • Commitment to self-reflection and ongoing learning;
  • Experience developing monitoring systems for quality improvement;
  • Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

 

Qualifications – Preferred:

  • Holds a Ed.D/Ph.D in related field
  • Second Language Proficiency in (Spanish, Arabic, Haitian Kreyol, Chinese (Mandarin), Vietnamese, Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese or Somali)

TERMS: Managerial Tier E. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.
